Garden

nightfall:

a native

moves through Eden

gray stone on

weathered concrete

strict figures

cast in marble

shadows

in lotus-blossom streets

the walls of paradise

keep my spirit

grounded, held

here

an endless promise

of the earth

is unfolding, forgotten

one good shake

a broken spire

and a sky split open

i will let myself

get lost here

i will let myself

feel endless joy

and reckless sorrow

i am

Siddhartha in daylight

an underground bodhisattva

nirvana attacks me

from all sides

Alleluia

hail Mary

full of grace

the Lord is with thee

underground

now that i

am released

each stop brings me

closer to salvation

my pain in

breaks and shocks

from one

bone-white building

to the next

my tongue is tied

my hands are bound

but my soul

is free

with a trail of electric fire

beneath my feet

no more lovers

no more tears

the kingdom of heaven

awaits

the solid earth

cradling me

between hell

and the streets
